The Good Life City has been blessed with so many talented athletes throughout the years from Al Smith of AHS to Deion Branch of MHS. Some of the most talented of athletes for one reason or another, were not able to make it to the next level, but have left so many memorable moments in the minds of Albany sports enthusiast. There are a lot of athletes that I could name that would very well fit at the top of my list of superior athletes from The Bany, but the one that I marveled at the most for naturally gifted talent has to be Micheal Spruell of Albany High. Even though at a glance, Spruell did not look like the most physically imposing athlete, he could run, jump, hit, and score with the best of them. Spruell is my favorite, but I want to hear from The Bany, on who you thought was the most impressive athlete you have seen come out of The Bany.
LOL !!!!!!!!!!!! I feel ya when family lays close to your heart !!!!!!!!!! Man we had an TON of talent to come out of Albany ! I JUST LIKE KEEPING MY SWAG ( FOR THE BIG GUYS) !!!!!!!!! I would like to see our city back on the map in sports, but we do not have COACHES WE HAD IN THE GOOD OLE DAYS !!!!!!!!!! R.I.P (big john reynolds) !!!!!!!!!
I very much so agree with everyone's choices but I fail to see a couple of other individuals that showed their a**** too....who was 6'4' 245lbs and highly recruted as a linebacker...broke records in juco...had a 3 year layoff ...gain 65lbs...went back to college as a D-lineman and still get drafted...Anthony Maddox. And then there's a highly consistant athlete....started all 3 years at DMS...stared all 4 years at DHS...started all 4 years at GT...drafted and started all his years as a Jag....Darrel Smith. Not saying these are my top rated athlete's but athlete's that were overlooked from the Good Life City.
Keep your eyes on former Westover football and basketball star and former John Reynolds award winner Jason Jones. Look for some big things out of him at OLE MISS this football season.
Yeah! Jason Jones what was good but he can't be considered one of the purest athletes to ever come out of Albany. He's not even in the top 5 to come out of Westover.
THIS IS FOR THE OLE SCHOOL ACER HOWARD HE WENT TO DHS IN THE LATE 70'S SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE HE FELL IN LOVE WITH A GIRL AND SHE BROKE HIS HEART AND HE LOST HIS MIND BUT HE WAS REALLY GREAT AS TOLD BY OLDER FAMILY MEMBER IF YOU WENT TO SCHOOL IN THE EARLY 80'S HE STRIPPED AT A DOUGHERTY HIGH AND MONROE HIGH FOOTBALL GAME AND RAN ON THE FIELD DURING HALF TIME ALL THE COACHES KNEW HIM HE WAS JUST THAT GREAT
Monroe High Athletes post segregation: Lester Sherman, Lorenzo Sutton, Tony Riggins, Deon Branch, David "Freak"Daniels, Greg Pratt, Antonio Leroy, Emarlos Leroy, Gary "Bump Monster" Ellerson, Ricardo Lockette, Chuck Marks, Marko Maddox, Anthony"Milk Man" Maddox. I'm missing one from the early 70's, he was an All State football player and a above average basketball player. Larry ? Maybe some of the old heads can help me out with his last name.
