All I have to say is SHOP VINTAGE and thrift! It's economically saavy, you don't have to worry about duplication and it highlights personal style because you have to have a sense of style to make it work!

Need help with vintage?! I got you covered.

Being a Fashionista on a Budget
Posted on August 28th, 2010 If you have an unlimited budget, dressing well should be fairly easy. Sure, money doesn’t buy good taste, and there are countless examples of very wealthy women who make very bad fashion choices, but in general, the larger your fashion budget, the easier it should be for you to look fabulous.

But most of us don’t have an unlimited fashion budget. The global recession hasn’t resolved yet, the economy is sluggish, and many of us can’t - or can’t justify - spending too much on clothes. We certainly shouldn’t be financing a large wardrobe with credit! Credit card debt is the worst kind of debt to have. It’s very expensive and can keep snowballing until it forces you into bankruptcy. Trust me, you do NOT want to go there.

So what’s a fashion-loving girl to do? We still want to look fab, enjoy current fashion trends, and freshen up our wardrobe each season. Here are a few simple tips for dressing well on a budget:

Wait for sales. Each season, department store sales start sooner than you might think. Each season’s clothes are offered well before that season. A month into the new season, you can already find great bargains on the sales rack. And you’d still have at least 2-3 months to enjoy your purchases!
Purchase a single classic, high-quality, full-price item per season. This should be something that you feel very strongly about - an item that really flatters you and that you absolutely love. Anything you buy at full price should also be a classic - something you’d be able to wear for several seasons without looking “so last season.” You should never pay full price for trendy items. Build the rest of your wardrobe around the timeless, high-quality items in your closet, adding colors and textures with less expensive items and accessories.
Do buy trendy items - those are so much fun! But go to off-price retailers such as T.J. Maxx for those. Off-price retailers often carry the exact same merchandise as you would find in department stores, at a fraction of the price. Sure, you would need to hunt for the best stuff - but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?
Vintage clothing stores offer you a wonderful way to add interest and fun to your wardrobe without breaking the bank.
Don’t forget your own closet! At the beginning of each season, you should go through your clothes, and make three piles: one to keep, one to toss and one to donate. You’re familiar with the 2-year rule, correct? Whatever you haven’t worn for two years in a row should not be taking up closet space - you should get rid of it. Decluttering your closet is a fun, cleansing process that not only creates more space in your closet and makes the daily process of getting dressed easier, but has the added benefit of helping you discover clothes and accessories that you had probably forgotten all about! Shopping your own closet is lots of fun, and it’s cheap.
We believe that dressing well on a budget is not just doable - we believe it’s fun. After all, looking good if you have an unlimited budget is easy! The real challenge - and reward to you as a fashionista - comes when you manage to look fabulous, knowing that you’ve kept to a reasonable budget.

Every year something is hot for the summer however.I personally don't think that the MAXI dresses are going out of style. You can always dress a Maxi dress up or down. I think that they are here to stay because they compliment everyone's shape and height. The Rompers and Jumpsuits are popular this summer too as well as floral print dresses and skirts, stripes and the sailor look.
