Congratulations on another mission completed.  I see education as an assignment from God.  I am daily equipping future leaders to impact the world for Jesus Christ.  My daily goal is to glorify God by engaging every learner (child or adult) in meaningul learning experiences that will lead them into their divine destiny.  What about you and your daily goal?  His grace is truly sufficient to get the job done.  This summer is a great time to get resfreshed and refresh your vision.

@Jecika....everyone has given you some excellent information to consider. I can most relate to Ms. Milledge's comment. Often times it's not the children, it's the adults that make you wanna go to jail. Parents and...get this...other EDUCATORS!! (I may get my Educator card revoked for this!!) Personally, I was surprised to learn that educators are NOT as caring and nurturing as they used to be. They sometimes SEEM to have no regard for how their actions impact kids and their parents. For example: If a student missed an assignment due to absences or even if the teacher misplaces the students assignment/project, the student ends up with a "0" in stead of an "i". Now let me be clear...not ALL teachers do that, but I didn't expect ANY teachers to handle a situation that way. I was blown away the first time it happened and I continue to be shocked.

Excellent idea Kono! Maybe we can do something similar at our church when we have our youth retreat this year...right before we start the 10-11 school year! (President Obama's speech was wonderful!)

Jecika, to answer your question in order to do the job you have to have a love and passion for kids as well as love what you are doing. I have been special educator for 22 years now and love my job as well as my students. It's not so much the students all the times that will get on your nerves it's the parents and especiall those who don't help their children at home.I could do it all over again the answer is yes but in th esame area only it would probably be Early childhood. I hope this helped your wondering mind :)

I don't know about you guys. But I notice a lot of areas that we should reduce spending and eliminate programs that are not working. In our Atlanta schools we could increase productivity by organizing our resources in order to share them. As a former administrator, I appreciated my staff members taking iniative and strategizing to help me balance the budget each year. Their ideas were always right on point since they worked in the classrooms. Unfortunately a lot of people have a "poverty mentality" that encourages us to spend, spend, spend... The "bigger is better" and "more is better" school of thought is kind of what has our country in the position we are in. I have been tightening the belt since 9/11 which taught me to really prioritize.

The budget cuts are crippling even for teachers elsewhere. I am in Florida and in my district we are taking a 1% decrease in pay across the board while our health insurance goes up 12-20%, depending on who you listen to. I think that even more old-school strategies will be needed next year because there will be fewer handouts and copies run off.

Mable that's a valid question, but I have an even better one? What are the educators going to do when the budget cut causes cuts in OUR pay? I'm experiencing that now. Some employees have taken a 4-5 day furlow. Those dollars really add up. More seriously, the students end up suffering in the long run. There's no 'quick fix' to the problem. Everyone's going to feel it when the class sizes increase.
